OK, so here is a second example for comparison, a slightly different situation, but another outdoor concert, much closer to the stage this time, but using a Rode video mic instead of the T3i internal mic. In terms of the concert, the sound quality was decent enough at both, but I would say it was better at the first example using the internal mic but I was further away from the stage.

Either way, I am a total novice with video, and just experimenting, so what you are experiencing is straight out of the camera and uploaded to YouTube.

I'm glad I paid for the Rode video mic. Clearly there are more sophisticated ways to do audio and video.

In both cases I used the capabilities of Magic Lantern on the T3i to set and monitor audio levels....

Brown Truck just came with my new Audio Technica AT8024 mic. Have not had chance of to try it yet. I like the fact that it is selectable between mono and stereo modes. Will let you know how I like it! They sell for $249 most places, but I got it new from EBay for $175.
