Has anyone else who had iPhoto that worked last week noticed that it doesn't this week? I have been transferring my photos from iPhoto to Lightroom and hadn't had any time this week to do it and when I tried tonight to transfer the last of them I got a pop up. I guess i"ll have to use the iCloud function and transfer the rest. I wonder if I can remove photos from my iMac so I don't end up with any more pictures being where I can't export them?

I just tried it and iPhoto still works fine on my computer which is a MacBookPro running the very latest version of Yosemite.

FYI, Apple does not remove photos from people's hard drives.

Jethro I'm sorry you are having problems I hope you can get some help to resolve them.

I think you should stop the name calling. You, probably, caused the problem yourself.

When Yosemite came on the scene, you were given a choice as to how you wanted to handle iPhoto. You could have it integrated into Photos or you could keep it separate. They also advised those of us who kept it separate that there would be no upgrades of iPhoto. You made the choice, so instead of calling Apple idiots,
credit them for giving you a clear option.

I had nearly 3000 photos in iPhoto and wanted to keep them just as they were for easy availability reasons. In my Dock, I have iPhoto and Photos side by side. No problems of any kind. I have my complete iPhoto file at a simple click. I am using Photos for new additions.

Your photo's should be in your hard drive in Users/Pictures iPhoto library. I believe you can load this intro the new Photos software. I was able to do it. I am running Yosemite OS.
That said it is confusing.
Over the years with Mac I have stored original photography by putting thousands of photos on my external drives backup in the iPhoto library packets.
My question is if I want to open those library to look for a specific photo from years ago how will I do it? Load a thousand photos into photos to view if iPhoto will not just open the collections.

The pace of Apple changes to their software and services is to much to fast. I edit video in Final Cut Pro and the recent huge updates were good but changed my collection of jobs done.
So their will be one flower symbol with a lot of different edited video's and the edited show etc. So I have to open these new libraries in Final Cut Pro X 2 to just see what is their. Can't open and see the files in the symbol.

I also believe that Apple and Adobe who are constantly sending update (especially Adobe for $50 a month) are effecting the perfomance of our computers etc. I don't like the iCloud and Adobe pushing me to use their storage is annoying.

Good luck.

To all you people who keep telling me it's not apple's fault It IS NOT mine. Until last Wednesday I had both iPhoto & Photos. I tried to open iPhoto Saturday to finish migrating the photos left into Lightroom. iPhoto would not open. I got a pop up telling me I had to update iPhoto and to go to the App Store and download the update. I got to the App Store, tried to download iPhoto again and got a window telling me that iPhoto was no longer available. I went into pictures looking for my iPhoto Library and did not find an iPhoto library. I found instead a Photos library that was made on the same night that I downloaded an update for my Kindle app on my iMac. iPhoto is now greyed out with a circle and a bar across it. I have trashed the iPhoto app and reloaded from the purchased apps from the App Store and still have no iPhoto. I tried the delete & redownloaded on my MacBook Pro and it worked there. I have been able to open my old iPhoto library from Time machine on my MacBook Pro and have been able to transfer the photos to Lightroom. My gripe was that I did not do anything except to update my iMac and lost a program I was under the impression would stay working on my computer.

That seems to happen a lot on this site, if you ask a question and everything works well for them, we all become stupid and they are smarter (or it makes them think so). Just continue to ask and ignore the ignorant, you do end up with a few intelligent answers.
