Camera to Windows 10 reading problem

I just installed Windows 10 yesterday, and after running all my usual programs I thought all was well. I just encountered my first glitch.

In Win 7 I plug the camera into a USB port, navigate to it and go to the SD card files, select the photos, and upload them. Just tried it in Win 10, and file explorer reports the external storage device (the SD card), is empty when in fact it had two folders with over 50 photos on it.

Put the SD card in a card reader, plugged it in the USB port, and got my photos as usual. Win 10 just won't acknowledge the folder on the card when it is in the camera (Fujifilm HS50EXR).

I've gone through all the viewing and folder options I can find to make sure that all folders should be visible.

Has anybody else had this problem and solved it, or any ideas from anyone?

The easiest way to remedy th situation is to use a dedicated card reader that can be purchased for approximately $20.00.

Thanks, I have a card reader. Over the years I'm just more comfortable using a USB cable to camera. The open SD door on the camera is just one more thing to remember about so I don't break the fragile thing off. If I must, I will use the card reader.

Is it just me or does it seem to anyone else that Windows 10 is having an inordinate number of problems with (at least visual) media? I've heard good things about WinTen, but it seem that the importation and/or reading is not among its strongest features.

As to having to buy a separate reader:

Chap walks into a car dealer and announces his wish to buy a car.
SALESMAN: "Certainly sir, we have just the model for you. Would you like rare deluxe option package with an engine and transmission? We also have a great deal on tires. A windshield will be extra, but we'll throw in the windshield wipers for free. Seat belts are required by law, and for a bit more we can add seats, with a wide range in upholstery ranging from economical Saran to luxury Naugahyde (75 Naughas gave their lives for your comfort). A battery is, of course, an option but cables are included in the inexpensive wiring harness. One key is free, but we suggest you purchase the spare. And finally, sir, where shall we deliver it (free within five miles) or shall we assemble it now so you can drive it away (we provide a liter of gas). Thank you, sir, please sign right here, here, here, here, initial here, here and here and proceed to the clinic to leave a pint of blood as a deposit. Now, sir, will that be cash, check or credit card? How about a free cup of coffee and some day-old popcorn while you wait?"

Me neither including some considerably old and unsupported things. Windows 10 seems extremely solid, many of thr reported problems appear to be caused by other issues.

I was advised to wait until the last moment to switch over to 10 (the free upgrade time). Many bugs should be ironed out by then, and it sounds like good advise to me. I never threw out a piece of equipment that was working perfectly well. So why not keep my Win 7.

Hello Neil

Most likely it's not Win 10 it's more likely your cameras software causing your problem. Check with the maker of the camera for a updated driver or later software.

As I posted a few days ago my printer wouldn't print after I switched to win 10. I called Canon service and the tech walked me through the fix. Call Canon and see if they can fix the problem. The service is free and is first rate. Give it a shot.

Why would he call Canon if he has a Fujifilm camera?

This sounds as though it is quite likely to be a driver problem, and the camera is not being detected properly when you plug it in.

When I did my initial upgrade to Windows 10 I did it from the downloaded USB install kit, which couldn't know about all the devices in my specific computer. After a couple of Windows update sessions pretty much everything was caught up.

You could try reinstalling the drivers and software which might help. If you need the latest they should be here: http://www.fujifilmusa.com/support/ServiceSupportBrowse.do?prodcat=879801&sscucatid=664260

It doesn't mention Windows 10, but that probably doesn't matter.

I would do a reboot, then a Windows update, just in case that helps, and will also confirm if it is still not working. Then reinstall the drivers, software - usually without the camera plugged in, and see if that fixes things. It is very unlikely to do any harm.

Good luck.

I suspect you are completely correct. Just had a 1G Win 10 update, so will check what Fuji has. Thank you for this tip.
