Currently deciding between the Tamron 24-70 and Canon 24-70. Need it for indoor shooting eg. weddings, holiday events, fashion etc.,...... Opinions please?

The Tamron is really sharp. One caveat: I have this lens and it drains the battery in my Canon cameras. It works well, and the photos are of excellent quality, but in my case if you leave it on the camera, the battery will be dead the next morning. If you get it new, it can be sent back to the factory for a free 'adjustment', but otherwise you'll have to pay.
Tamron is aware of this and may have fixed the problem in newer versions.
The lens you're considering might work perfectly, but then again..........

Without a doubt, the Canon EF 24-70/2.8l Mk II.
Roger at Lenrentals.com (who sees many, many copies of all the major lens models from every manufacturer) says:
"The Canon 24-70mm II is the best standard-range zoom ever made. By any manufacturer. Ever. Its not close.
Its also the most expensive 24-70 f/2.8 zoom made, but theres a reason for that. Resolution is as good as most prime lenses throughout the zoom range. Distortion is low. Focusing is very quick and accurate.
If you need the absolute best, then this is what you need. That being said, there are a lot of very good choices in this range: Canon 24-105 f/4L IS, Canon 24-70mm f/2.8, and the Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 VC. All of them are very, very good. They just arent quite as good as this one."
I think he was a little over the top with that statement. But they also did a teardown of the Canon lens (because there were some minor issues with the first version of the lens holding calibration due to some not-so-durable parts inside) and were quite impressed.
There also is "future-proofing". Canon states that all L-series are compatible with all EOS cameras past, present and future. So if you upgrade cameras in five years, it's almost a sure thing the Canon lens will work on it. With the Tamron and other third party lenses, there is no such guarantee and there have been a variety of 3rd party lens compatibility issues over the years. Sigma has had the most (but also makes the widest range of lenses). Tamron has had a lot less, but some. Tokina has had no issues I'm aware of. To be fair... the 3rd party manufacturers have been pretty good about fixing higher-end lenses, when problems occur. The Tamron 24-70/2.8 would certainly qualify as "higher end".
It should be noted that the Canon 24-70/2.8 doesn't have image stabilization.... while the Tamron SP 24-70/2.8 USD does have VC. The Tamron also is about $500 less expensive (~$1300 vs ~$1800). I believe the Tamron has a much longer warranty than the Canon, too (6 years vs 1 year)... Not that I've ever had an L-series lens break down in 1 year or even 6 years (I have had repairs on 10+ year old L's).
In the end, I think if you want the very best... the Canon should be your choice. If you want very, very good, the Tamron can serve quite well.

Sigma hasn't updated their 24-70 2.8 OR their 70-200 2.8 lenses yet. When they do, they'll probably be in the same category as the others.
I can't speak for the Tamron but I own the Canon 24-70 2.8 II and it continues to surprise me how it resolves. I don't generally sharpen in post when using this lens. It's that good.

Does Leica make a 24-70?
Does that go into the mix?
I have just purchased a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 for a Nikon D750. I know this is not your question, but in the process of making my buy I researched the issue extensively. Whether the 24-70 or the 70-200, for Canon or Nikon, the data I pulled together clearly put the Tamron lenses out in front of the Brand products, or stated that they were at least as good and many hundreds of dollars cheaper. And the user reviews for the Tamron were full of praise.
Hello Maik:
Canon in the clear winner.

I shoot with the Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 VC USM. It has served me very well. It is constantly sharp, focuses fast, and has great color and resolution. It is a bit heavy, but what 2.8 lens isn't. The cost of the lens is in line with Tamrons other SP lenses, but less expensive than the Canon "L" quality. Only you will know if the Tamron is sharp enough, for the actual difference you'll have to do lot of pixel peeping. Don't forget the 6 year warranty, on the Tamron. You'll be able to send it in for calibration, cleaning, camera updates, and adjustment up to 2021, absolutely free. Try that with Canon. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Tamron or Canon fan boy, I just look for the best, practical use for my money, and lenses.

I had the 2.8 version Tammy and sent it back. Had focus lock issues. I had the F4 version of Canon and loved it. Canon does not have an IS version of their 2.8. So if IS is important you can try the Tammy.
