Problem with Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10

I’ve been using Windows Photo Viewer for viewing my photos in Windows 7, 8, but since I downloaded Windows 10 the Viewer does not work well for me for some reason. The images look very different: no contrast, no sharpness, colors are different. So now I use FastStone for viewing and the same images look fine.
Still want to be able to use Windows Photo Viewer, any ideas? Anybody with the same problem? Thank you

I had the same problem since Win 7. I downloaded the free Hornil Photo Viewer v.1.0.3.1 and made it my default viewer.

http://hornil.com/en/products/photoviewer/

A great feature is that if you click on the left pointing arrow in the upper left corner of the viewer it presents thumbnails of all the pics in that folder, and if you highlight any of the pics it gives the full EXIF data for that pic on the right side of the window. If you double click on a pic it brings it up in the viewer where you can view it full window or at any magnification.

It's way better than the now crippled Windows Photo Viewer.

The only thing I've had to do is set the Windows Photo Viewer as my default in Win10. Other than that, it works the same as it always did.

I graduated from window's photo viewer years ago. I don't know anything about Hornil photo viewer although I have heard of it. I use Faststone's Image Viewer continuously. I love it. It is superb. Have a GREAT DAY!

I use Faststone for quick editing and lately also for viewing, it's a great program, thank you.

The only problem I have had with Windows Photo Viewer is learning how to operate the controls. They work differently and are located in different places on the page. One big plus is that I can open and view RAW files. With Windows 7, I had to convert them to JPGs with View NX or Lightroom, but Windows 10 opens them and allows me too work with them and view them directly.

Yes you are correct. I hadn't noticed it because when scrolling through the pics in a folder it just keeps the view of the previous jpg on the screen but says it is viewing the NEF.
