hi all garry is my name i not to long ago had my camera stuff taken. i was looking at the nikion d5500 to replace the d5100 that was taken. i came across the s-1 any thoughs.? ps i had a 55-300mm &18-55mm on the d5100 & was going to maybe a get a 18-140mm & or 18-300mm lens on a d5500
I gave up all my Nikon equip ( 10 lenses, bodies, flash unit and other stuff ) and bought a Fuji X E-2. I never thought that I would change from Nikon. I had owned that brand since 1967 and was extremely happy. Medical issues forced me to rethink my equipment choices. I have never been happier with my equipment than I am now. 1 body with an 18-55 zoom, a 55-200 zoom and a 14 wide angle I also have a X 100T as a back up. The whole outfit, including a small gadget bag weighs about 5 pounds. Go take a look and see for yourself. I have used a Fuji S-2 and found it to be quite good. It was basically a Nikon with a Fuji sensor and name plate. I like my X E-2 or 100T results more than what I got from the S-2 or the several Nikons I have used.
iso 6400, X E-2, 55-200 at approx 180
iso 400, X E-2, 18-55 at 18
iso 400, X 100T, 23mm fixed lens
The Fujifilm s1 is a bridge camera, it has a powerful 50X lens but photo quality won't be as good as the D5500. IF it were me, Id GET the d5500
My friend....I happen to like the S1 having owned the camera for just under a year. For two years I have had to make a comparsion between a HX400,HX300 SX50,P600, G15 and S1. I am pickry about how it feels in my hands, how the optics are and is it worth my money. All those cameras have had good and bad points. I find the S1 to give me a good shot. Besides the quality of the shot I have found the S1 solidly built along with the G15.Living in Florida the weather proofing makes a trail walk much more pleasant. My two cameras that are both used and in my opinion given shots that I am proud of are the S1 and FZ200. Give the S1 a shot and hopefully you will be as pleasantly surprised as I am. It is returnable....Have fun
