I am planing on spending 4or 5 days in the Berkshires in Massachusetts in mid September.I would appreciate any photo ops or must see places I can visit
THANKS
We were lucky enough to have a few days in that region as part of our 2008 North America vacation.
We very much enjoyed the Norman Rockwell Museum and studio near Stockbridge.
We also had a great day out at Hankcock Shaker Village, just a bit west of Pitsfield. A great spot for photo ops.

We enjoyed riding the Berkshire Scenic Railroad out of Stockbridge, driving up Mt Greylock / hiking in the area, and the historical park in North Adams. From the town of Florida (yes, that is the name of a town), you can get to the east portal of the Hoosac (railroad) Tunnel; we thought that the drive alone made that trip worthwhile.

As a former resident of Long Island and Connecticut let me suggest a diferent returrn route from the Berkshires. Go east on the Mass. Turnpike to I-84 and visit Old Sturbridge Vilage. It is a Willmasburg VA class restoration--since it was done by the Rockefellers, too. A great day to soak in early Colonial history and architecture and life. then, return home on I-84 south and West on the Connecticut Trunpike I-95 back to NY.
Great photo ops along the way and if you have kids or grandkids, you will definitely return. You might also take a side 1/2 day to Old Mystic Seaport, too.
The Berkshires are execllent and beautiful. You're a little early for the Autumn Colors, but you should beat the crowds from teh summer music and tehater and the fall colors. Enjoy. You could do full length essay/study of churches, alone.

If you're willing to consider side trips, then Northampton MA is also a good choice. Founded within a generation of Plymouth, it is an interesting collection of old and new. If you stop there, though, you should think in terms of parking in the parking garage, because the streets tend to be a mess.
(we lived in what locals call the "Pioneer Valley" 2006-13, and the last two of those years I worked in Northampton).

The Norman Rockwell Museum and the town of Stockbridge, MA.
I believe the peak for fall foliage in that area is about the 2'nd week in Oct. You might want to consider that.

All of the above suggested by others is great. Add one more:
The Clark Museum in Williamstown
They have exhibit right now of Van Gogh and also have original Whistler's Mother. Ending soon.
I second Eurolux's suggestion. The Clark Museum is fantastic!

Check the concert schedule at Tanglewood. Beautiful place to enjoy one.
Numerous photo opps in and around Stockbridge. Probably other places, too, like the open-air concerts near there (I've forgotten the name of the venue). I recommend going there in summer or early fall.
I loved going to the Edith Wharton estate. Beautiful gardens and a sculpture park plus a beautiful mansion.

Good advice so far. If you have the time take Route 7 south from Stockbridge all the way to I84. It's a slow but beautiful ride with great photo ops.
