Hi Joe,
I'll be in Trenton for a couple of days.

Trenton is not a good wildlife viewing area with the exception of some migratory bird stops on lakes in the area. 30 minutes west of Trenton, Route 29 takes you to New Hope, PA, a small historic town with nice shops and restaurants. Along the way, you will pass Washington's Crossing, the site where George Washington crossed the Delaware for the Battle of Trenton. They have nice gardens there and a visitor's center. On the way to New Hope there are several areas adjacent to the old canal towpaths where goods proceeded to and from the Delaware River by barges pulled by mule teams. No wildlife in the area but many sites for nice photos.

About an hour south of I80 in Edison. Must stop and eat there. https://www.google.com/search?q=harold's+deli&client=safari&rls=en&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAWoVChMIhJ2U7ubOxwIVAfSACh1XtQ6S&biw=1686&bih=1255

If you are a firearm enthusiast, leave your shooting irons at home, or just stay out of New Jersey. Guns are not welcome in NJ. Several people with concealed carry permits from other states have been jailed in NJ, facing serious repercussions, because they thought NJ would honor their CC permits. It's almost like Mexico. NJ is just one big self defense free zone. Personally, I stay out of that state. They don't want me there, anyway.

This dumb-as'd state recently busted someone who came from NC just to help-out after a storm.

Be aware, if you carry "concealed", NJ is a VERY restrictive state when it comes to firearms. If you are caught carrying concealed you will be in big trouble.

This was just an informative post.

Added: Posted this before I saw the other replies. You can carry concealed in NJ if you are retired Law Enforcement WITH the proper permit(s) and paperwork. If in doubt, call the NJ State Police and ask.

Western NJ , say in Hunterdon county, is mostly wooded with well paved "back" roads. Just about anywhere in this area would do.

I do not believe that is quite true anymore. One needs to read the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) of 2004 and its amendments in 2010 and 2013. If I understand it correctly, federal law supersedes state law, allowing active or retired "law enforcement" to carry nationwide without permit(s) in all states.

My NJ permit expired after I moved to NC. Easy enough to get one here. But, NJ always TRIES to make things difficult. If I traveled back to NJ I would just need my retired NJ ID and permit from NC.... and have a good lawyer on retainer!

out here in NY, they make it next to impossible to get a carry... son in law did not apply immediately on retirement and tho they did say "you should not have waited", and did make him grovel a bit, he did finally get it and was able to go into the city and pick up his handguns from NYPD... he did have to turn 'em in on retirement tho....along with the badge, hardware, and pay for the GDM hat [baseball cap w/NYPD on it] I stole from him... hee hee

When I retired, I had to turn my badges in. Received a retired ID and badge. As for weapon, they issued us them as needed while on duty. Off duty we carried our own under their guidelines. As I left they passed my former badges back to me saying to use them for a badge board.

As for NJ permit, I also had a PA permit by just filling out a form, picture taken, and showing my NJ permit. Here is a kicker.... I could only carry what I qualified with in NJ... yet PA would let me carry anything I wanted.

NJ always and still tries to make things difficult.

But you would tire of being stopped by every cop when in town or at a mall.
