My Nikon D300 mirror is sticking. I guess it is time to upgrade my old camera. Can I trade in my D300 for something newer, I still have 2 nice nikon lenses that I want to keep. I don't want to sell it on ebay as it dose not work, any suggestions?

Since it is not properly functional you won't get much for a trade-in either. I have a nice D300 in my used inventory right now for only $325. You may get lucky and get something for it as is, or just get it repaired and keep it as a back-up body.

Whether you sell or trade, make sure the buyer is aware of the problem. A CLA may resolve the mirror issue, though.

Great camera. Sounds like time for a CLA.

I would get an estimate on repairs and see if its worth keeping. Get it fixed and use it as a back up or if you don't use it much, keep it as your primary.

Good, used D300s are worth $300-$400. The Nikon website doesn't specifically give an automated estimate for a sticking mirror, but common repairs for a D300 run $40-$200 or so, third party repair shops may be cheaper. I'd suggest a repair if the camera is otherwise in decent shape.

Does anyone know if the pads used to dampen mirror slap are made of the same product that was used in film cameras. This foam used to deteriorate over time and could become sticky.

I'm sorry to disagree with others, but I don't believe a sticky mirror necessitates a factory authorized repair. I think the first step should be a good CLA, possibly with pad replacement. That should run $125-150 plus shipping. If you don't know anyone who can do it, PM me. I have a local source who's work is highly rated locally. I can contact him for you and/or put you in touch with him.

Thanks so much but I think it is just time for me to upgrade to a newer model. I have the Nikon D700 that I can use for now in my home studio. I would like something lighter and easier to take on trips anyway. Would anyone like to buy a used D300 in very nice condition with a sticking mirror.
