An interview with DavidT,
1) How long have you been into photography and what got you started?
I've been doing photography off and on for 40 years - mostly off.
2) Do you have any formal training and what kind of photography do you do most?
No formal training, but I have taken some workshops.
3) In your opinion, what makes a good picture stand out from the rest?
It could be a combination of many factors including composition, timing, and a clear subject/message.
4) What equipment did you use and was there any special setup? Can you walk us through it?
I was strolling through Brookside Gardens looking for green flora when I spotted this spider in its well-manicured web. Fortunately, I had my tripod with me, but no flash. So, I used the flashlight on my iPhone as a fill light.
5) Do you post process your final images, and if so can you describe your workflow?
I use LR6 for minor post-processing (i.e., exposure adjustments, clarity, contrast, sharpness and noise reduction).
6) Who or what has influenced your photography and what inspired you to take your winning shot?
Since the advent of digital photography, I've had to re-learn how to create photographic effects with a computer instead of with film and in a darkroom. But, it's a lot easier today. With digital photography, I get immediate feedback to correct an image, and this has improved my photography tremendously.
7) Would you change anything if you could do it again, and if so what?
8) What is the one thing you wish you knew when you started taking photos?
9) What is your favorite photography accessory, other than your camera?
My tripod.
10) If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
My Canon 90mm tilt-shift lens with a 25mm extension tube. It's a very sharp lens, suitable for close-up photography, and you can adjust the plane of focus.
11) What lighting equipment, if any, do you take on a shoot?
I rarely take lighting equipment with me unless I know I'll need it. Then, I will take a flash or just an LED flashlight.
12) If you couldn't do photography what else would you do?
13) Do you have any funny or interesting stories about your experiences?
14) Is there somewhere we can see more of your work?
15) Do you have any advice for the rest of us?
