Holocephala - a tiny robber fly

Just got my caliper out & measured the wire. It's about 3.5mm. The Robbers are about 10mm, same as yours. As I said before, I see them early in the year. Maybe they are just not fully grown Robbers. I did send them to BugGuide.net, but got no response on them.

If an insect has fully developed wings, then they are adults, and won't get any bigger. The one 'exception' I'm aware of is the subimago mayfly - which leaves the water, flies to some vegetation and molts one more time into sexual maturity.

Thanks Tom. Though bugguide only took the ID to genus, I THINK it's Holocephala fusca, which has a wide distribution and includes Texas.
