Not what you expect to see on most beaches I guess, but I rather like the colours and composition. Your opinion valued, as always. (Just got an hour on my computer while the visitors are out!).

magnetoman,

That is where Clark changes into Superman across the pond.

Good catch, and patience for letting the sailboat to get into position.

Your exposure is good, the focus is spot on, and the rails have been use in composition to lead the eye to th phone both.

I like the pisture, very unusuall,--but I feel its too de-saturated, the sky could do with more detail and the rest tweaking with the contrast slider--JMHO,

Geoff

You nailed the composition ... totally nailed it. I absolutely love the contrast of the telephone booth against the soft subtle colours of the beach. Love the grass detail and the zig zaggy fence ... awesome. I can see tweaking the sky just a bit, but you must be very careful not to overdo. The soft subtle colours in the the environmental part of this pic make it. It's amazing that you have sailboat colours that tie in with the phone booth ... this pic was just meant to be and you saw it ... good eye!

I agree with Geoff. If you have Lightroom, perhaps reduce exposure, increase contrast, increase blacks, and, if you have version 6, maybe add a graduated filter to the sky, then erase the filter from the booth and the sailboat. You could also punch up the blue a little.

This is absolutely stunning to me! I agree with Nightski; the subtle contrast between the water/sand/sky makes the subjects of the photo pop even more. The fence, the booth, and the sail are so interesting in their shapes, colors. textures and relation to each other that the rest could all be white and I wouldn't care. In fact, I think more blue added to the sky would make the photo LESS interesting and busier. The mellow, easy "wash" of color is most comforting.
I love this. Beautiful to look at!!

I think this is a masterful image for all the same reasons others do - the composition has wonderful balance between the booth and the matching sailboat, naturally occurring leading lines carefully selected by you!, items of interest throughout the frame but strategically connected and my favorite part- a nice array of shapes. I don't want more blue in the sky but I do wonder if it would help a bit to lower the brightness of it. Perhaps not though, as it would become a little less graphic-looking and could lose some of its magic. Artist should decide!

I do use Lr a lot, and have for this image - your response intrigues me though - because I don't know how to erase a gradient filter from selected areas, it's been something that has bugged me for some time! So, many thanks for your suggestions - and can you tell me how to do that please? Your help much appreciated.

The erasable gradient is only in the last version of LR. There is a brush in the same section where the gradient controls are, and one of the choices is Erase. You just paint the effect out of the area you wanted left alone and not affected by the gradient.

Didn't have to wait too long for the boat - there were four or five of them passing - enough to get several shots and sort the focal distance the way I wanted it. My favourite was one with two boats, one of which was in the window area of the booth - but the booth itself is too fuzzy! Thanks for your comments.

Thanks for your suggestions - I did play with the sky a bit, but felt I lost the look I wanted when it was darkened. I'll play some more though.

Thank you Sandra, a fortunate opportunity whilst waiting for the chain ferry - taken from the car.

Thank you for commenting, I'm with you on the sky but understand why others suggest more saturation.

Yes, it's the 'graphic' look that appeals to me minniev. Thanks for you comments, much appreciated.
