My only suggestion would be a matte and frame.
I am having a really hard time evaluating this with just a thumb. In the thumb the colors are muddy and there is no detail in the shadows.
Compositionally I like it with the curve of the river drawing you into the sunset/rise.
After downloading the original and manipulating it in LR, I found this image to have lots of potential. The details need to be brought out of the shadows to really appreciate it. The sun-stars add a great effect and reddish sunset colors provide a beautiful warm glow to the sky, reflection in the water, and the overall landscape.
I found this to be a beautiful image as well. I particularly like the way you've used your wide angle to create an interesting foreground with the rocks. The perspective is quite effective with the river drawing the eye through the frame. Focus and exposure are good and I think David is correct that it just needs a little work in post.

The real value in sunrises and sunsets is the warmth of the light they cast on the world. Unless there are clouds for the warm light to reflect off of I find pictures of the rising or setting sun to be rather ho-hum. They usually end up as a rather pretty but uninteresting sky reflecting off of a body of water with everything else in silhouette or near silhouette, and efforts in post to boost the colour of the sky. The warm reflected light appears in only a small part of the foreground in this picture. How could this picture be improved? Wait until there are some clouds in the sky or turn around and find a subject that will benefit from the warm light of the rising sun. Technically and artistically there is nothing really 'wrong' with this picture - it just isn't very 'right'.
