Fires are cleansing, not devastating, except when they affect something that humans don't want them to affect.

When you see all the dead horses, cattle, sheep and peoples dreams go up in smoke they are devastating. One family in this fire lost 500 head of cattle.

Calfire took all the money, dismantled local volunteer departments, bought a lot of spiffy equipment, but when the fire came, it had its way anyhow.
