what the best tabletop tripod for handling up to 6 pounds of camera/lens? Also, what kind of head do you use on it?

Manfrotto do a couple of good table top tripods. The Pixi and the Mini, I have both of these both are ball head, the Pixi clamps the ball with a button and the Mini holds the ball with a thumb screw. The Pixi is slightly bulkier and neither are height adjustable. The Pixi is mainly plastic and the Mini is metal. Both need need the legs opened right out for maximum support, the Mini probably will support more weight though.

An Oben TT300...check them out on Amazon and read the reviews. Very sturdy, good price point, compact and light weight.
