I shot these Sunday afternoon. This particular pair of adults lost their 1st 2 chicks to predators and then we all had a scare a while back when we thought that cyotes got not only the chicks but both adults as well. The good news is that the adults muct have been keeping the chicks further back in the dunes. Both chicks are doing well and getting ready to fledge.
Hope you enjoy these 7 images with captions. All were taken with my Nikon D5200 with my Tamron 150-600 attached. The only PP done was some minor cropping.
I'm flying! OK - I'm really just practicing flying. Can't seem to get off the ground, though. But aren't my wings just THE most gor-gee-ous things you've EVER seen?
Boy, that really pooped me out but good. I need a rest!
Maybe I can talk Mom into letting me rest under her like I used to when I was an itsy bitsy ball of fluff.
Look Mom, there's plenty of room. I measured it with my beak!
Here we go. Come on, Mom, suck it in! Work with me here.
See Mom, I told you I still fit!
Well, maybe not QUITE like I used to. Now for a nap.

A great set!!
Thanks, Bob. Oystercatchers are some of my most favorite birds to watch. This particular chick gets very rambunctious.

Very touching moments!
Always a pleasure to hear from you. Thanks! I hope to be around to get a couple of shots when this little guy becomes airborne for real. He made it a couple of inches off the sand twice this afternoon. Fun!

Thanks, Sylvia. He/she is cute and has personality, too. The other one is cute, too; but this one is really photogenic with his antics.
Wonderful series! I am jealous!
Too cute MadMike! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed them.
I'm in southern NJ - cold, snowy winters. You are in sunnu FL. No need to be jealous! Want to trade spots January & February?

You are very welcome. I'm very glad you enjoyed the series. It was accidental. I was just out doing my daily bird check and had my camera aimed in the right direction at the right time. The little guy only did that wing stretch once. It's one of my JDL (just dumb luck) shots.

Thanks, Linda. I'm going out again this afternoon if it doesn't rain. The 2 chicks that belong to those adults are due to fledge next week. Looks as though this guy will be first. His/her sibling is just a bit smaller. Should be interesting to watch.
Very nice set of these birds. I saw my first Oystercatchers this year.
