I am currently using the new 27" Mac.

I have several staff who love to be nosey and read my emails when I am not around. I know I can set up another user,password controlled access. etc. but how do I go about using the same email address and only allowing certain emails to filter through to a different user or must I set up another email address (very difficult for me with my business). I really only want them to see certain emails that are necessary for business use. I am probably asking the impossible but would really appreciate any help.

Secondly, is it possible to set up the internal camera as a covert application to cover my office when I am away? I already have CCTV everywhere except my office.

Linda, what you are asking is very possible to do, but requires a considerable amount of tech knowledge. Without knowing much about your email server, I'd have difficulty giving you details.

I've set this sort of thing up quite a few times in the past. But, had considerable access to the email server and accounts thereon.

Another question, are you the only one using the 27" mac in your office, or is it more a communal machine?

I'm really only the prime main user, my staff are allowed to use it to check certain things only for my business. When I am away we have a manager in!! I can tell which programmes they use by the little black dots under each icon, this is not too much of a problem, just wrong that they do it without permission.

The emails and the subsequent folders with my own personal data is what they access when I am not there. When the cats away so to speak. Thank you so much for your quick response and help it is very much appreciated.

Linda, sorry for the questions, but without being there in person, it's difficult.

Do the people that check your machine have computers of their own? If so, then you should simply lock your computer when you leave the office. I know that becomes a pain, but that is the easiest way.

As for the email server, again, depending on your access to it, and the amount of control Virgin allows, you could set up incoming emails to forward to those people. The forwarding would be based on rules such as the sender of the email.

If the sender is (name/address) then forward to:
List of forwarding addresses

Just lock your machine before you leave your office.

I do have a spare Mac that needs wiping, I crossed all my old files onto the new mac, I suppose I could get it wiped and use
that for them. I will have to get someone in to help me but it is worth it. Thank you for your help.

You might be able to go to a high school and ask a teacher if they know of anyone that might be able to help you do what you want done. You could then pay the student, I'm sure it would be cheaper than hiring someone. This way you might find someone that you might be able to call on for other problem too. I was a tech for a school and I would go to teacher homes to help them with their home computer. Just make sure that you tell them it is a mac.

Being that you have a new machine have you called apple tech support? I too just purchased a new Mac and have called them on a number of issues. They stayed on the line and walked me through all of them and made it clear that I could call them back concerning any issues with the machine.

I'm a newbie and had a lot of setup issues from email to iTunes, they were great.

I do not know how to provide you a solution to your Mac programming, but it appears some of your emails need to be secured for your eyes only.

It also seems to me that your staff needs integrity and ethics training relative to your work station and email access.

If they need ethic training relative to your work station and email access; then, the follow-on question is What other areas may they also need ethic training?.

I probably would have a recording system installed to identify the specific culprit(s) and then decide if training or termination is in order.

The only way I know how to setup your email is to create "Rules" yet for this to work you need to know the email @ name. example: @amazon.com You can create rules so that any email from that server will go to your designated folder. Fairly easy to setup yet can be confusing when following directions in the Help.

The little black dots only mean the program is still running in the background. As soon as [application Name]->Quit is selected on the menu bar the black dot disappears and you have no knowledge is some DID have it open.

If the spare will run Mac OS 10.4.4 read on how to download and copy to a USB drive. The shut down machine, start up from the USB drive and perform a complete new install which will include formatting the hard drive(s).
