Sorry, Neil, I don't understand your cryptic comment. Based on the OP's examples, the camera being offered appears more than capable.

Oh Lord! I don't remember the specifics now, but the S1 dropped several features that I find deal breaking. RAW, articulated screen, viewfinder, hot-shoe, manual zoom, BBF, lens threaded for filters. No, the S1 did not drop all of these, but it doesn't have all which the HS50EXR does.

I'm sure the S1 is very capable, just not what I'm willing to trade for.
