A study in contrasts

My son got a new double bass and i spent some time this afternoon shooting it. The double bass is a powerful instrument, and I think a high contrast B&W approach really brings that out.

Hi, Erik;

That's an arresting instrument portrait. A strong image.

Can't tell if it's spruce-top or carbon fiber, but it matters not...I can hear the touch of hand...and the sound made when the bow was laid on the strings!

And then I spent a goodly time this evening on your impressive website!
Inspiring!

Thank you sir. Having seen your excellent work, I consider that high praise indeed.
I felt that only showing a portion of the instrument, done in B&W, would really convey the deep tones that it produces. Glad you liked it.

Erik, I find the subject and composition very intriguing but the technical side lacking.

Frank,
Thank you for you comment. I agree that I should have taken more time with the lighting, and I should have set up on a tripod so that I could have used a smaller aperture and overall sharper image.

Your image has in fact inspired me.

I have a black 04-05 ZX10R, and I'd like to give it the same
treatment... maybe I'll send the original photo to you to
process. 8-)

Ok, I'll go hunt down a dark background.

Or I'll hit it with a strobe at night.

Cheers.
