I just received my refurbished Nikon D7100 and checking for shutter count find that there are 15000 counts. Is this normal for a refurbished camera?

Shutter counts on a refurb body can vary WIDELY. I just got in two D3200 "refurbs" and the shutter count on both was "1", and thats the one I had to take to determine shutter count on them. I have a refurb D610 with a shutter count of 128. The older the camera model the greater chance of getting one with a higher shutter count, its always a gamble. But they all have the same 90 day refurb warranty on them.
Sorry, I just did a search and found out quite a bit of information. My only concern is that I have a D80 and D90 that I rotate and the D90 only has 16000 counts. I realize I don't photograph as much as others but the 15000 does seem quite high to me. Will call B&H tomorrow and talk to them. Thank you.
I had 22,000 on a D5200 after about 2 years, they can go a long, long way. And the shutter is a replaceable mechanism. Personally, for the right price, 15,000 wouldn't bother me. Good luck!

That's on the high side, but well within reason. My refurbs/used have varied from about 300 - 1500.
Thank you all for the reply's. JerryJ
To me that is high I would return the camera
I have bought refurbs from B&H and Adorama. They have had anywhere from a half dozen to a few thousand. There is no way that I know of to guarantee that the one you get will have a low count. 15,000 does seem a bit high but not excessive. The 7100 is a reliable camera and that is only about 10% of the expected life span of the shutter. I wouldn't be worried about it.

I've only had my D7100 for a few months and I'm sure I have more shutter actuations than that already. Maybe the person who had yours was a bird in flight photographer, too. I can take a couple thousand shots in one day trip depending on what's out there. I wouldn't let it trouble you.

When I buy used, I always get the shutter count first, but there is no way Nikon is going to post the shutter count on the box. Imagine a store with 100 refurbs, and a customer wants the one with the lowest count. :D
I had to go back and check on this. Before I knew about shutter counts, I bought a Nikon D70. When I learned how to check the count, I found that it had over 44,000 clicks. I used it for a few years and sold it to buy something else.

From everything I have read, 15,000 clicks is low. Nikon says that is only 10% of the shutters life. I have read on this forum of guys / gals going way over 100K with cameras that are still going strong.

I'm positive that my D5100 has close to 200,000 shutter clicks and has just started showing a lag. That's why I got the D7100 but I still use the D5100 as a backup or with a different lens.
Thanks again for the reply's. I will talk to B&H today and see what my options are. JerryJ
