It seems that the only way to purchase a canon 5DMKIII without waiting a couple of months is to get a kit with a EF24-105L f4 IS lens , Does anyone here have any knowledge or thoughts on this lens?
I really appreciate the depth and range of knowledge on this forum.
as long as it is a sharp copy it is a great lens

It's a great lens. I own one. Much more than a kit lens.

Hi gekko11: Here is a great website that covers all of Canons lenses, it breaks them down as to quality and usage. The "L" series lens is the top quality lens that Canon offers.

I own the 24-105 F4 L IS lens, very sharp and well built. had it for over two years and no problems.
That may be sold as part of a kit, but that lens is far from what is normally considered a 'kit lens'.
It is a great lens with top quality optics.
Besides, I think you actually get a break on the price by buying it together with the camera rather then seperate.
I'd jump on it personally.
Have it, love it. A bit heavy, but the results are worth it.

If it is L glass, photos will be excellent....24-105 is a nice range too.
That's the lens a friend of mine used to take images of the Silverback Mountain Gurillas in Africa. They are awesome images and he used this lens even though he had more expensive lenses to choose from in his bag. If I can find a good pre owned 24-105mm f4L lens for the right price I will buy it.
I agree with Birdpix I own one and use it 98% of the time very sharp if you wait you will probably end up buying it anyway thats what happen to me. I own the Mark II would love to have the III but my pocket isn't that deep now.
gekko11, I think the answers you have gotten from those that use the 24-105 are all positive. I use the 24-105 and find it one of my favorite lenses. I've used a test model of the MkIII and I know you will be satisfied ... I was! I buy all my lenses, except those on loan, new and would only consider USA imported lenses and NEVER gray stock. Best of luck, J. Goffe

I have read the term "sharp copy" a number of times. Is the L lens or other high end lens that variable in quality, sharpness, contrast, etc.??
I have had the 24-105 lens for about 3 years now. It is an outstanding lens and it is my walkaround lens. Always mounted on my 7D.
