Lorima's WPC Entry has been selected for the Photo Critique Forum* to find out what could have done to make it better.

Be nice, but be honest as this may help everyone with their craft. Thank you everyone!

To me, the photo needs a focal point of interest. I see the broad, bare street, but I have to work to get beyond that.

To me it looks like the horizon is sloping to the left and the buildings are all tilting toward the center.

I actually like this.
I think it does a very good job of depicting what it wants to depict.
The title is "Main Street, Rural America".
And that is what it depicts.
No hustle and bustle, its not Harvest Daze yet.
Its an Eggleston type of shot.
Mundane, almost empty streets, an overall scene, not necessarily a point of interest. The subject is the emptiness, the loneliness, the nothing happening.
I wish the road markings were in worse condition.
I'm undecided about the sloping walls, I don't think it bothers me.
It does look like it leans down to the left, but if you level fix that you lose the symmetry of the road with the sides of the image. Maybe a slight tilt right and a step or two to the left in the taking would have fixed that. Looks might be decieving, but it seems like you might have been able to set the tripod up in the middle of the road to get the perspective and symmetry perfect.

I like this shot, the emptiness certainly depicts a lazy country township. Expect the Sheriffs in his office with his feet on the desk! I'm not keen on the colours at all though and would turn it into a black and white image, straighten the buildings, add some contrast, or at least blacks - the clouds are already burned-out in places, so care needed here... had a pause there - took it into Lr and carried out my own suggestions. Like it! But there is a bit of a problem with the sky area that I can forgive 'cos I like it. If you'd like to see it I'll pm you with it.

Shooting from the center line would lend itself for this shot. A little farther back and close down the lens to catch the building on the right would serve 2 purposes.1 it would show the building in its entirety(at least the whole face) and 2 it would straighten the buildings. A little white balance adjustment (darker) would lent itself to to this image to help in the clouds. Some are very close to being blown out. This shot would lend itself to a B&W treatment with a little sepia.

I love this concept, these are the kinds of compositions I enjoy the most. That said, I would like to see the leftward slant straightened out, the leaning buildings brought to a more vertical orientation with your editing software, (using Lightroom's lens corrections feature is useful here). It appears this might have been shot through the car windshield in the right lane, this would be a more powerful image if taken from the center of the road.
Two more items, the clouds are really blown out, as Tusketwedge stated the image might be better as a black and white. The edges of the buildings and utility polls against the sky have wide light edges or halos that are probably caused by over sharpening or maybe an HDR attempt.

Your right and that you for your comment. It was taken on the spur of the moment and not a set up shot.

Lots of very interesting comments and worth taking notes from. This shot was random and taken on the spur of the moment. If it was a shot I had planned I would have thought about it a little more.
