I have 64 bit Win 7 Pro. Anyone have this OS and upgrade to Win 10? Any issues with drivers, ... I'd appreciate feedback. I want to upgrade, but I feel a little waiting might be a wise move. Any opinion?

Thanks,
Mark

I'm going to wait and see, about 11 months. My win 7 pro 64 bit is running way too good. If it ain't broke don't fix it........

It is funny. I just gave that identical quote and sentiment to a friend who was engaged in the same conversation with me.

I appreciate your response.
Thanks,

   My thoughts and experience exactly. Everything works well now, so I am reluctant to tinker. I did reserve a copy for my Pentium powered netbook - MS system exam says my system is robust enough, and it is supposedly easy to roll back, but...

Thanks. It appears (so far) everyone with win 7 64 bit Pro is happy and has a "wait & see" approach. Right now I can run PSE 11, LR 5, Photoshop CC and various other applications (programs - Chrome, Google Search - Gmail & others) and my system just hums along. No hitches, lags, ... Of course I do have 16 GB DDR3, i7 core processor and intel MB. Other than some conveniences and new services in Win 10, I'm not needy for improvement, but new technology, ... is tempting!

I'm happy with Win 7 Pro and I'll probably stick with it until next summer. I have an older Win 7 32bit laptop in the closet. I will update it to Win10 to see if there are any compelling reasons to change earlier (or at all).

Thanks Math78.

Sounds like a very sensible approach.

My policy since my first Wndows machine is to wait until the early adopters finish the field Quality Assurance, security tests, peripheral and application compatibility. That's when Microsoft issues what they usually call Service Pack 2. Then I will purchase W-10 and install it.

The connectivity and application and security universe is so vast for Windows that it would be impossible for Microsoft to do it anothr way.

Since the question is not directly photography related, this thread really belongs in the "General Chit-Chat (non-photography talk)" group.....

I have a 64 bit Win 7 Pro laptop (HP Elitebook 8540w). I plan to wait another 6 or 7 hours to upgrade.

I noticed this morning that the "Get Windows 10" icon said it is ready to install Win10. The other 8.1 laptops did not seem to be ready at the time I left for work.

I suggest you do at least the download of the installer files during the next 12 months. MS is only saying that W10 will be free for 12 months. After that???

I'm running Win 7 Pro as well and for some reason, don't have the window icon at the bottom right hand corner. Have tried everything and no go! All updates are in place. They say you need KB2952664 update and I do. However, when I run the Microsoft diagnostic, it says it is missing. Help! Anyone???

You are correct. It should be in "Chit Chat". That delineation did not occur to me when I posted. I'll be cognizant of that next post.
Thanks,

Some quite good advice here, including:
"We recommend you don’t upgrade immediately. The free Windows 10 upgrade offer lasts an entire year. Now that Windows 10 is beginning to roll out, sit on the sidelines for a bit and see what other users report after upgrading. If there are widespread issues — or issues on your particular model of laptop, for example — you can avoid them. At the very least, wait a few weeks to see what the general experience of people upgrading to Windows 10 is before taking that leap. After all, even if you want to upgrade, you may end up sitting on the sidelines for a while. Microsoft seems to agree that it’s crazy for a billion devices to upgrade on the same day, and that slower-than-promised Windows 10 rollout is designed to find bugs and fix them before more people encounter them. Hang back for a bit and you won’t be one of those early users who function as testers and find those initial bugs."

Worth a read.

I see no icon either. I'll make sure all updates are in place. I don't think one needs that icon to install Win 10, but I'm not positive about that. I'll research it.
Thanks for the response.
