Back in the film days when I was selling cameras there were ridiculous legends of Nikon durability, in fact their survivability made up for their awkward feel,

having used nikon cameras since 1959, in all places, and many not so nice, i can personally attest to the remarkable survivability of nikon sp, s3, f and f2 camera bodies. i'm the person with the nikon in a bucket of machine oil walking into nikon's repair service in nyc, back in the 20th century. my other cameras also survived drops from flying machines (but did not land on concrete, so that may have had something to do with it). and as far as the "awkward" feel to the camera, that is merely a matter of personal preference.

I dropped my Nikon D610 over a cliff on the Grand Canyon. It hit the rocks about 30 feet below, bounced 8 or 10 times and landed on the trail 20 yards below. By the time I got to it laying on the trail, it had been raining cats and dogs. I picked it up, wiped off the mud and everything seemed to work flawlessly!! BTW: I have 50 prime acres of land to sell in Florida ... anyone interested?
