I too have been using many different Olympus camera's employing the SSW self cleaning since the first DSLR in 2003, the E1, and most models up until my newest E-M10.

I have never needed to clean any Olympus 4/3, m4/3 sensors in all that time. Olympus is my primary choice.

Right on...now a bath, that's a different story...scrub a dub dub.

Yeah, I read a post a long time ago. The newer camera's (other brands) are commonly referred to as Weather Resistant.

Most owners of the early Olympus E1 referred to it as weather proofed. He used to run water over it in the sink to clean off the outer surfaces. He even once indicated he took it in the shower with him after a grungy day hike, slogging through the rain.

I think it's a fine line between weather resistant and weather proofed. It's called continued operation.

Not sure I have the courage to hold one under the tap???

I have a Canon T5, which I use very often. My question is, how do you keep the shutter clean, and, how often should it be brought in for a professional cleaning?. I do not see a mode in which you can clean it by the camera it's self........Thanks for your inputs.

With my film cameras, I clean and lubricate the shutter mechanism about once every 15-20 years. But for digital cameras, I honestly don't think it's worth going through the trouble or cost to clean the shuttter after 15 years of service. Especially if you hardly ever use it anymore.
