Hi all,

I have PSE 11 and LR 5 and am considering going with the PS/LR for $9.99/mo offer. Do I need to uninstall my current LR5 and PSE before doing that?

Thanks,
Donna

No, you should't have to uninstall anything. But you will have to tell Lighttoom CC 2015 where your previous catalogue is located before you will find anything in the new Lightroom.

No, do not uninstall your current programs. LR5 can be uninstalled after the CC is installed, but leave it in so the catalogue, settings, presets etc can be transferred across during the installation.

PSE 11 can be uninstalled at any time, but you may still want to use it occasionally.

Thanks for your advice, Larry and Searcher!

I never thought I'd want the full PS program but I've been taking a course of PS which also works with PSE and have noticed some things that PS has that PSE does not that I think I would find very useful. That said, the instructors both speak VERY highly of PSE. Still in decision stage but leaning to the monthly thing.

If the installation runs correctly, the new LR will find the old catalogue and copy it in the new LR.

Unfortunately, the new LR will also put a new shortcut on the desktop without deleting the old one. This can cause confusion but is easily sorted.

Well let's hope it does it correctly then, Searcher. (-: Thanks.

I'm not a Lightroom user, so have no comments on that, but I agree with Searcher about not removing PSE 11 yet. I personally think you will be heading in the right direction with the LR/PS CC combo. There are, however, some differences in operation between PS and PSE. While you're getting a good feel for the full Photoshop software, you may be glad you have your PSE still loaded for quick edits that you're already familiar with on PSE

Hi Donna,

As some have previously said, no you do not need to uninstall LR 5 or PSE 11. I have Photoshop CC, LR6 and PSE 11 and run them simultaneously without a hitch. I love CC. It's terrific. I'm beginning to use LR more frequently and am reading & running the tutorials. They are well done.

Good luck in making your choice.
Mark

A slight change in direction but I thought I would ask here first rather than start a new thread.

If you sign up for the subscription and decide you can no longer afford the $10/mo (I am retired & living on a fixed budget) what happens when you cancel?

Do you still have full access to the programs but without updates?

Or are you cut off at the knees and left with nothing?

I have not fully embraced the CC concept. I currently have PSE 9 and LR 6.

I'm trying to decide about purchasing an upgrade to PSE 12 or going the CC route but the subscription concept makes me wonder since having to cancel is a very real possibility.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The subscription, while paid annually or monthly is for a 1 year deal, you can cancel within the first 30 days, and possibly at a later date, but I am not sure on that. Once you are no longer a paid subscriber, the software will no longer work since you stopped paying for it's use.

The exception is Lightroom, it will continue to work without the Develop and Print modules I believe, so you will still have access to your images.

Thanks for your response Donald. That seems to push me towards the outright purchase of PSE.

At least at that point I will have access to both reasonably current versions of PSE & LR for as long as I need them.

It would seem to me to be a good idea for Adobe to provide a path for people after the first year subscription.

I understand not getting any future upgrades as an incentive to continue but some folks will simply not be able to handle even a $10/mo expense and after a stipulated period of time should NOT be left with nothing!

I understand what you are saying, for me the subscription is a monthly expense for my hobby of taking pictures. PSE for me would not be an option as it is limited to 8 bit editing.

There are other alternatives to Lightroom and Photoshop if you are willing to invest the time to become proficient, such as Raw Therapy, Dark Table, Lightzone & Gimp, but for me, $10.00 dollars is cheap for the top of the line.
