It was nice to have this dragon come by today and pose for his portrait. But, it was the same silly smile and same pose for the entire session! What can I do to get the dragon to "work it"?

A Slaty Skimmer?

Oh the high-strung, temperamental portrait shooter! He was doing a handstand for you Sherry, and grinning at the same time! What more could you ask? Super shots of a Blue Dasher male. :-D :-D

Hahaha. You made me laugh! Okay, he was multi-tasking and I didn't even appreciate it.

Blue Dasher. Blue Dasher. I almost said Blue Dasher but then decided it was the Slaty. Oooooh. This is hard!

Thanks, HOT.
I think Donna recently posted that they assume that stance to somehow deflect some of the sun's heat. I think that was what she said - she better come back and straighten me out again.

EDIT:
Per Dragonflies & Damselflies of Georgia and the Southeast, "If it gets too warm, . . . [they] will turn and raise their abdomen in the direction of the sun. This minimizes the exposure of body surface to the sun and helps the insect stay cooler. This position is called obelisking."

Who needs Donna!? I bought the book!

YOU do! So you'll have somebody to ID your dragons. LOL Don't you just love that book, Sherry? It's the best I've seen so far. Has a lot of good info as well as photos.

Since taking up photography, I have learned (or attempted to learn) so many things I never ever ever even thought I would ever want to know!

[place bashful/embarrassed icon here] It's so nice to be needed. [batting eyelashes and smiling sweetly]

I haven't spent a lot of time with the book, yet. But, it does look well organized and informative. I would probably spend a lot more time browsing through it if more stinkin' dragons would come to visit!

Isn't that the truth, it's freaking amazing what I know now that I would NEVER have known if it wasn't for photography and I'm not talking about just the camera, lens or how to shoot it.

Maybe photography needs to be required subject in school, if you can get a kid interested in something he or she will learn and look at all the things you can learn in Photography :P
