On the back of the recent lens releases by Venus they have released a twin flash set up also now, with a review/test by Thomas Shahan: http://fstoppers.com/diy/macro-photographer-tests-venus-kx-800-twin-flash-gets-brilliant-results-76908

Thanks for the link. Very interesting video. But as is always the case, diffusing the flash is the big issue. His solution in the video would not work for my field situations.

Agree on the diffusion part. For another $20, you can buy diffusers at the online store from manufacturer. I am intrigued, but probably not enough to part with my R1C1 kit. I do like the ability to position the flashes but not crazy about the LED.
Shahan is good-- one of my favorite macro guys.

The downside to separately diffusing the twin speedlights is two reflections on metallic or shiny surfaces or eyes, such as a Jumping spider. Shahan's single large diffuser provides a larger, single reflection, especially in spider eyes.

Concur and a reason I don't care for ring-lights. Just a personal thing with that doughnut-shaped reflection.
The second light has some intrigue for me as a backlight or oblique side lighting to accentuate some texture.

Looks like the flash heads had separate diffusion in the jumper Douglass posted. Strange reflection on left side of eyes and stronger light source from left is throwing soft shadow.

Quite interesting though, and the DIY possibilities are part of the reason why we all look at these things.
I was thinking on the concave diffuser where this arrangement may be quite useful, as my attempt with that was frustrating with the single hot spot, but with something like this, and diffusing mylar sheeting I am trying out, may have some potential even maybe utilizing the LED seeing as all 3 lights can be adjusted independently. ooh the possibilities :) now just spare cash :(

Exactly! When I saw the video, I instantly thought about a half-pipe of white diffusion material, projected from front of lens, immediately above subject.

I have almost clicked the buy button on the R1C1 numerous times. I wanted to use it along with concave diffusion but, it seemed positioning the SB200 would be very limited due to the way they are mounted. Not to mention the price being a little off putting :| This little beauty (KX800) would solve these two issues as well as being a bit less cumbersome.

I had the form for the KX800 filled out ready to buy from the site in China and did a search for a coupon code and could find none. Then I noticed that B+H will be stocking it.

EDIT: What the hell! I just went back and finished placing my order. I should receive it in 2-3 weeks :D

That little illumination light would make this worth it. Brilliant ideal attaching it to the speedlight structure. I wish more manufactures would pay attention to their customers needs.

Couldn't help it, just ordered one last night. Possible candidate for cross polarization. I love our toys.
