SX50 @ 1200mm equiv.

These huge birds were a surprise find. Brolgas are usually seen in a large field or some isolated area--but not these two. I was driving along an isolated road in the bush & came across a house & shed (the only building within about 10 miles) way off to the right. I could see two very large birds standing near the shed. I knew that they were too far away for my DSLRs, so I shot them with my trusty little SX50, hand held, but leaning against the side of my van. The house appeared to be lived in, so I would guess that the Brolgas have been befriended by the occupants. Downloading will show better details.

#2 shows off the bird's shape beautifully. Nicely exposed! The yellow flowers and grass are a bonus. Is this one cropped?

Beautiful birds, super shots, Earl. I especially like the second one against the light background. The last one looks like the palace guards. lol

Nice shots Earl, are you sure they don't own the place? :-D

Thank you, Linda. They are all fairly heavily cropped--they were a looong way off. :-)

I was just wondering about giving the bird in #2 a little bit more "breathing room" on the left side of the frame?

The corner of the shed is at the left edge of the frame (you can faintly see the edge in the lower half of the pic). If I had not cropped so tightly on the left of the frame, an ugly strip (old rusty junk etc) would have been exposed--that is why I cropped so tightly. Earl.

Wow! what a find Earl. I especially like the last one. Those security guards look rather mean. But then I don't think I'd want to visit that property with that baseball bat showing in the window. Did good mate

Earl the last one is priceless! I love them in front of the door... But could you get the left one to move a bit and make it even balance😂👍🏼
