Can you talk about your choices for the processing here, Erik? Very interesting!

Thank you Linda. I got up early and shot this in a small park near my house to get the "golden hour" lighting. When I got it home I applied a slight warming filter in PS to bring out the orange light a bit more and then, back in LR, I used the adjustment brush to de-saturate everything from the statue to the right. She seemed to me, to be holding back the advance of something and I thought maybe it was the leaching out of the colour and vibrancy from the world.
Maybe I read too much fantasy... :)

Thank you, Erik! Very interesting to know. And no, I think your "fantasy" for this shot is creative and just right :)

Another quick question: did you envision this particular pp while you were photographing the statue?

Actually no. The original was a bit underexposed and when I brought up the exposure, the right hand side was a good but brighter so I started thinking about high-key and sepia toning, and ended up with this...

Hi, Eric,
An interesting treatment.
Particularly when I realized that her out-of-view left hand is holding that torch in front of her. (Flame is notoriously difficult for the sculptor to render...) . Her right hand is held in the manner used to reflect the torch's light to better illuminate her path...or whatever she is viewing...

Did you experiment with differing degrees of desaturation?

Dave,
There are several statues like this in this little park, along with some cement benches around a couple of huge live oak trees, very tranquil setting, and I don't think that many people even know that it's there. Anyway, I have shot it in varying lighting conditions and have applied several "filters" and different saturation levels. Here is probably my favorite, just added a bit of vibrance in post.
