Am considering purchasing the Sony alpha 7ii mirror less and buying the Sony 24-70 lens with it. Does anyone have any experience with this lens?

I'll assume you are talking about the FE mount version as opposed to the A mount since you are looking at the A7II.

I can tell you that the A mount 24-70mm f/2.8 Zeiss is one of the best lenses in that range on the market.

Absolutely outstanding.

I'm betting it is just as good optically, if a full stop slower because it is an f/4 lens.

Sony does not make this lens in f2.8 for mirror less yet. My favorite Nokon lens is the 24/70 f2.8. Shoot with it most of the time. I will bet this lens is just as good

I think you'll love it if it's anything like its Zeiss cousin. Sony makes excellent glass.

The Zeiss gets mixed reviews. Most are good. I have the 28 70 kit lens
got it fro $300 US. Reviews were ho hum but it is very usable. I have the 70 200 G lens great glass. And the gem is the 55mm 1.8 Zeiss. If you wan't an overall lens I think you wouldn't go wrong with the 24 70 FE Sony Zeiss.
If I had a first choice i would go with the 70 200 f4. Good luck.

The Zeiss might get mixed reviews, but I found it to be very sharp, contrasty, with great color-rendition and a great fit for the sensor of the A99 (when I had it). The 24-70 Sony is not dissimilar, as I love its color rendition.

I'm considering ordering the Sony a7rii as well but as I now use a Sony A77 I intend to stay with most of those lenses by using an adapter. Then I would purchase any new ones as e mounts. What reasons brought you to the decision to buy the Sony 7rii?

Let's be clear, your talking about the 24-70 2.8 zeiss right? I have this lens and it is very sharp. Keep in mind that Sony just remade this lens so do not buy it new, it will lose value right off the bad. Advise you buy mint condition used from e-bay or similar. It is heavy, you know that right, and you will be shooting 36mm- 105, not 24-70. If you are set on this lens that's OK but there is an alternative. Sony also makes a 16-80mm zeiss for a lot less. In fact, off e-bay you are talking under 400.00 mint for this very sharp lens. It would be 24mm-120mm on your Sony AII, a very good range. However the sacrifice would be in speed, 2.8 vs 3.4-4.5. The weight of the 16-80 is a fraction of the 24-70. I have both lenses and on a average shoot you would be hard pressed to tell the difference in IQ. Good hunting.

I have Sony A7II as my second camera on shoots. Camera it self do provide better quality images as do Canon 5D MarkIII. My Sony lenses are Carl Zeiss 55mm 1.8 and Sony 70-200mm f4.
Your question 24-70 kit lens, I do not have it, but I do assume it is a good lens, BUT so,,,, slow at like my 70-200 Sony lens, only usable and a good one in a mid day lite.
I'll rather wait, there will be fast E mount at soon.
Sony has getting big fame on a7II and a7r, they'll know demand for fast lens.
I bought Metabone adapter $340.00 FE-E mounts, to use my fast Canon glass as my 24-70,2.8, but with disappointed results, auto focus " Hunts" and problem with most automation's as AV/TV settings, manual mode OK, but focusing problem in low lite. Total Auto mode I never use I had to test if that function with Metabone, but I doubt it will.
Ones Sony get faster zoom lenses I'll get my second Sony camera I love this little size good baby camera.

The sony FE 70-200 is an outstanding lens....too good to just shoot at at midday. Crank up the the ISO a little and use it all day. Too good to leave in the bag.

I have the Sony A7R and the Sony/Zeiss FE 24-70, f4 lens that I believe you are referring to and have been very happy with it. I find it to be a very good walk around lens with good sharpness, contrast and color. As most of the reviews point out it is a little soft in the corners at F4 but I seldom shoot wide open anyway. Even if I do shoot wide open it has not been a problem for me. It makes a nice well balanced rig with the A7 series body.

I also have the Sony FE 70-200 f4 lens which is excellent and highly recommended. If I shoot in low light situations I can bump up the ISO a stop or two to compensate for the slower lens and with no noticeable noise issues.

I know the Sony/Zeiss 24-70 f2.8 A-mount lens is a higher rated lens but I don't want to have to use the required adapter.

Honestly I have read and found that although the 24 70 range sounds so practical I don't think it is. Mentioned this before was doing a Triathlon shoot and had discussion's press photographers. Go to lens is the Nikon 70 200. Yes it is huge and heavy. I like a mix of primes and zooms within reason.
Good luck.

I have the A6000 with the 18-200 lens so I am going to go for the 24-70 for this camera. On my D810, their 24-70 2.8 is my favorite lenses and I use it the most. I am switching to mirror less due to the weight and size of my Nikon gear.
