I really like this photo. I like black-and-white. I like the composition - the diagonals and verticals in the foreground; the waviness in the background; and, the busyness on the left vs. the emptiness on the right. I like the lighting and textures. The sign, to me, is interesting but not the main point; it could have said "Tybee Island" and be ok with me. What I really wish is that the details of the people were a bit sharper. If the photo were mine, I would blow it up to almost pixel-level and work on emphasizing their gradations of shades and making them sharper. It's a wonderful photo.

Love it rebride! I think the way you have framed this with the fishing pier so prominently displayed and the waviness leading out to the distance is so effective. I think using just a thin sliver of sky makes the scene seem to go on forever. Love that sign! It's priceless! Do people really TRY to fish for sharks? LOL

It does seem to go out forever, doesn't it? And the first question I asked my husband was, "Do people really fish for sharks?" and he said yes.

Thank you.
Your description mirrors many of my own feelings about this image.
Yeah, I could work more on some of the shading a bit more especially the dark triangle of deeper water on the right. A little muddy there.
Sharpness on the beach people probably not going to happen. Not much to work with. Tried for hyperfocal to infinity but that was stretching it, so keep bias heavily toward the sign.

Well, thank you Nightski!
The pier was rather high and gave a great perspective. Kind of like being safe way up in a tree fort with this whole other scene expanding out there and than there is this sign.
I've seen many a no fishing sign, but never just no shark. Yea, sadly people do fish for shark and when they do they usually chum the water often using blood. Although the sign is there for the safety of swimmers it is good for the sharks, too.
Once again you have noticed a detail, the sky in this case, that was important to me and the image. I especially appreciate that kind of eye.

I like this a lot.
I like the mono processing.
I like the subject, the dark water, the detailed sky, the feel of summer, and the wind on the water.
I think it will be a much stronger image with half as much boardwalk as it has, to bring the sign even more prominently to the front.

You might be right about the crop. Brings more to the forefront, even the background, the beach.
Made me realize I have been doing mostly whole frame lately, less cropping of images after the fact.
I like that you like it.

I liked the crop suggestion too.
