I like that you have purposefully shot this for the contest. I like the fun poses of the children. The background isn't helping your image though.
The downed limbs and the light weeds are fighting with your subject for attention.
A little lower perspective would have given your young subject more of the illusion of going up hill.

This is a cute pose. I'm wondering if I'd like it better if they were facing the camera or not. Not sure. I normally like shots of people when they're not facing the camera. I think perhaps it's because they're facing what appears to be an unpenetrable wall of forest or thicket and they have nowhere to go. For my taste the colors are a bit over-saturated and the contrast is a little high.

I really like this photo! What great poses!! I even, for a change, like the pp - the saturation and colors. It's a fun photo with fun colors!

If I had a chance to do this photo over - and when would an opportunity like this arise again? - I would have tried to get a better depth of field. In the photo, it looks as if the kids were stepping right into the woods and the downed tree. Perhaps there's a way in pp to kinda separate the kids from the background.

One of the things you might consider doing is eliminating that piece of bark by the boy's hand. At first I thought he was holding a fish, but he's not.

You caught the kids at just the right moment and were able to stop the action. It would be a feat for me, but you did it!! Congrats at capturing that moment.

I was not sure what to expect when my photo was selected for photo critique but was pleased with your comments. I do appreciate you all making such constructive recommendations and your time in doing so. The children and I had fun thinking of "j" words coming up with junk, jewels, John Deere and others. They loved being Jack and Jill and we found a small hill in the yard. They went up and down numerous times and this was the best one in terms of expression. I was unable to show their faces as the parents are always worried about such.

I thought the picture could have been better and wondered if I had shot it in shutter mode if it would have been better. In future, will try to eliminate the clutter. Again thank you for your ideas.

The Critique Forum is a great place to get technical analyses and suggestions. This Forum has been my "home," and I have found that people here are very generous in sharing their knowledge and expertise. I hope you won't hesitate to post again.

I love your concept for this challenge.
A couple of "continuity" errors for me though.
They are going down the hill, not up.
Jill wears a dress.
And your daughter is facing the brush, instead of the direction they are going. It looks ... not natural.
The image itself, the background is a bit aclutter and the clothing is not in tune with each other. Converting to black and white may have been a better option.
I like the shutter speed used to blur the feet slightly, it symbolises movement.
The concept is great, executed fairly well, a 6/10 that could have quite easily been an 8 or 9.

Thank you for your comments - you are right. Long ago, little girls did wear dresses and should try to fit them into the time. The picture should tell this story. I appreciate your ideas.
