Keeping Your Photo Locations Secret

I read an article last night about keeping your favorite photo locations secret, rather than publishing them along with the images. The idea is to keep tourists away and to prevent other photographers from horning in on your favorite photo spot. I'd post the link, but that site isn't allowed on UHH - "too much self-promotion by Vanelli."

I've never been inclined to keep a photo location secret. How about you?

I'm not about to tell anyone where I took my pictures of the Taj Mahal!

LOL! I always share a spot if I find one. But the back yard is my favorite one right now. And everyone is more than welcome to come play!:)

Sure sounds like they are insecure, in not selfish. That's as bad as not sharing a good restaurant or a new beer.

The only places I keep to myself are those where I get special permission.

When someone (not you) thinks he/she is the first to walk some place and take a picture then wants to keep where it was a secret, that someone is disillusioned to be gentle.

Place two photographers at the same location and ask them to take pictures... You have two results reflecting their styles and skills (or lack of).

Location a secret? ffft... Guy who wrote this is a nutcase.

A. Adams picture taking locations are well known. Did anyone come out with something better from there? Nope. Different? Yes.

I guess it would depend on the site. I don't have a problem with others knowing where I shot, and I don't have a problem with 15 or 20 of them showing up to shoot there as long as we are all respectful of each others shooting. For me, the biggest issue is tourists and iddiots that probably don't read where other people are shooting in the first place and may not be able to read at all, but happen to be where I am shooting and keep trying to get into the shots. However, since I probably am not crawling under a fence into a secure military site, area 51 or something, they probably have as much right to be there as me, so I just deal with them as best as I can. "Please move" sometimes works... Now, having said that, if I have paid for the right to be there to shoot, in otherwords rented or leased the property or paid some fee for the use, then I will get security and have them moved or removed.

For once, write this day on the calendar, Ron and I are completely on the same page.

Since my knees began melting down, it is highly unlikely that I will be hiking where "no man has gone before" so there is no reason not to share. Different perspectives and styles should be encouraged.

I know of no one here that it too old to learn a new trick. :)

Only when shooting at home or very close to home I keep it a secret.
