I had a third opportunity to photograph Peregrine Falcons today from a 34 story building in center city Philadelphia. Peregrines have taken to nesting on high buildings in cities and feed on the feral pigeons and other birds found in urban areas. My goal, again, was to photograph the identification bands, if any, on the birds. Although we never saw the female, the male was so cooperative that I didn't need anything but the naked eye to read the band! It actually perched about 12 feet from me on the nest box and sat there staring at me for 20 minutes!!!! What a rush!
Here are some of the flight shots: All were taken with my Canon 7D MkII with Canon's 100-400 mm MkI lens. Manual exposure set at ISO 800, f/8, 1/2000. All 65 points active, AI Servo Af, Case 2.
Ed, these are all beautiful shots, well done. What building did you shoot these from in Philadelphia. The reason I ask, is one day maybe I'll get a chance to visit this city and try my hand at shooting these beautiful birds too.
Great set.... Can't get much better than #1&2!
Superb set of images of this striking bird.
Dave.
Absolutely great captures!
WOW! What a unique perspective. Stunning doesn't begin to describe these.

Walt:
I have been privileged to be invited to observe and photograph the banding of Peregrines in SE Pennsylvania. I have been accompanying personnel from the Pa Game Commission who have the responsibility for monitoring these endangered birds. Access is restricted to their nesting sites. In Philly, there is a nest on the City Hall Tower that apparently can be seen from adjacent buildings but which ones they are and how you would get permission I haven't a clue. The building I was shooting from is a private apartment building and you simply wouldn't be allowed out on the roof to see them. There are no other buildings near enough to get a decent view of the nest.
I have seen and photographed Falcons at other venues most commonly in Fall along the New Jersey Coastal marshes where they prey on migrating shorebirds. E B Forsythe NWR is one of those places.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Thanks, Ed I appreciate the information. And again, love your work.
You are amazingly talented.!
Excellent - The one with the river really gives a sense of location and the final with the band to seem him up close!
