Don't know. Given how slimy it looks--I'd guess a slug

Ahhh! Common names. There are two families (among many others) that are very similar - Stink bugs (Pentatomidae) and Shield bugs (Scutelleridae). In the former, the scutellum (the triangle in the middle of the back) does not reach the tip of the abdomen, and the shoulders are USUALLY pointed; In the latter, the scutellum is very wide and long, nearly covering the entire abdomen except for small lateral edges, and the shoulders are rounded. In spite of being round-shouldered (it must have slumped as a child) I'd guess the former. Very important info!!! Now you know. (For whatever use???)
Oh, the beetle is a Click beetle or 'Jumping-jack' (might be a closely related family, but these are rare, don't 'click'. and are mostly southern). We used to bet on whether they would land 'heads or tails' when placed on their back.
