I have a NikonD7100. In manual mode it is jumping shutter speeds. For example it is set for 400 after the shutter release it either jumps high or low. I have never experienced this issue. I am searching for the manual. Hoping there is experience out there that can talk me off the ledge!

I had the same experience. I found out that I was inadvertently turning the rear wheel with my thumb and on occasion, changing the f stop with my finger on the front wheel without meaning to do so. It had me puzzled for awhile.

That's my best guess:wink:

The only think I can think of to cause this is the command dial has some dirt in the contacts causing it to change settings. Maybe a good cleaning is in order.

Make sure wheel is actually in detent, not just almost there when you make your setting.
keep your fingers clear of the wheel after that.
Verify setting before shooting.

You accidentally have bracketing set on. I've done it twice. Look in your manual for how to take it off. It involves hitting a button on the front left of the camera while spinning the shutter dial and looking at the display until it's off. I have the D610 so it's probably slightly different, but I have to look it up every time anyway because it's so random.

I have Canon and Sony cameras, and sometimes the same thing happens to me. Inadvertent actuation of the appropriate wheel has been the culprit in my case.

A good cleaning is in order. Thanks for getting back so quickly yesterday. Grandkids were here. They would t allow me to panic about my favorite baby! So it waited until this morning.

Thanks for your reply. That was the first thing I checked!! Changed lenses to make sure connections were good. It was that bracketing button!

That was the culprit. Thank you for replying! When our cameras don't work this becomes a great support group! I moved away from the ledge!

Like others have said, bracketing is likely turned on. Turn it off. Check you manual.
