I do try to take care of my camera but over the years the rubber that is on my Nikon 300 is starting to come loose. This is the soft rubber on the body. Has anyone tried to re-glue this? If so what type of glue is best, or is this a situation where I should just send it in to be refurbished by a professional?

Thanks in advance.............~Ron~

I've had great luck with anything rubber with Shoo Goo. You can get it at Walgreen's. It's for sneakers. It takes about 24 hours to set up for good, but it ain't coming apart after that. I would apply some and use something like duct tape to hold the rubber in place and let it setup real good for a day. Good luck.

I would avoid duct tape as it can leave a residue, I would use blue painters tape instead

Try this one called "Super Glue" by Loctite. I use it for almost every thing from glass, metal rubber, plastic ceramic..., i even use it to make step up adapter.

Thanks, I will look into that. Glue that is presently on the camera does not seem to be a "permanent" type glue so not sure if super glue is the way to go. BUT, always willing to check things out. Thanks for the suggestion and I will definitely look into it.

As responded to a similar posting:

"My D200 has had loose rubber from time to time. This is what I do -

1- purchased some "Loctite vinyl, fabric & plastic flexible adhesive". Think I got at Lowes.

2- Use a tooth pick to get some on it.

3- Carefully lift the rubber and spread the advesive on the underside of the rubber sideing.

4- Take some clear scotch tape and spread tightly over the rubber and metal.

5- Let sit overnight and then peel off carefully.

May not last forever, but will for a long time."

Do have a Lowes near me so may look at that adhesive. Right now looking for options before I jump in and do something. But figure if someone else can fix it, I should be able to do it too. So thanks and will visit Lowes to see if they have it.

I would be careful with "Duck" or 'duct' tape on cameras, the glue sticks very tight and is hard to get off. I would use 'gaffer's' tape or painters tape and rubber bands to hold it until dry.

I would be very careful using "Super Glue" which is one of my primary glues, because ANYTHING plastic can be affected by it and some plastics can be adversly affected just being exposed to the FUMES of "Super Glue" or any of the other glues of that type since they actually melt plastic in order to 'weld' it back together when used correctly.

Speaking of Lowes, Lowes give veterans a 10-20% discount. I do not know if Home Depot does.

I agree with that. Plain old masking tape works great, use as much as you need. Wrap around several times.

Super Glue is Cyano Acrylate Ester or C.A. for short. Polymerization is what causes it to change from a liquid to a solid.
