I purchased a 60d over a year ago and absolutely love it. Like you I could not afford the 7d.

I went with a Canon 60d not the 7d that I hoped to purchased when I walked into the camera store. The sales rep was very candid in his comments and suggested the 60d based on my usage. He also owned one and suggested the 7d was a bit of over-kill for my usage. I've had it 3 months now and am very happy with it. The articulated screen has come in handy a few times already too.

Good luck!

This brings up a question; why exactly do you want to upgrade from a 400D?

Thank you everyone i really apreciate all your feed back.
The main reason i want to upgrade is because of the CF card and the pins that have bent. I was told they cost a fortune to fix but i f luked it have a go myself and straightened them.
I also want to get into photography more heavily and do a course and ma y be do it as a job so that is another reason. I have looked on the net and there are all great reviews but i wanted to see if there was any kind people out there who had personal experience that they would share with me as you kind people have.

Thank you everyone i really apreciate your feed back now all i have to do is wait for the camera to come back into stock.

Why the 60D? Do you really need the video? Depending on what you are mainly going to use the camera for the 50D may be a better choice.

Are you saying that you fixed the bent pins on your own?

I agree. I had the 50D (until it was stolen) and it had been my favorite camera to date. I had the T2i for about a month. Hated it. Took great photos but in video mode the camera spent a lot of time focusing. Did not like that. Sold the camera.

My only problem I have with the 50D is I constantly fill the 8 Gb card I use and have to change it.

Got to admit it is my fault because I am always in the continues shooting mode. Click, Click, Click, Click! Whoops, didn't need to do that. LOL

I have never removed a CF card from the camera. I downloaded directly to the computer via USB cable. Never had bent pins. I think the 400D is the XTI. That was my first DSLR and it was/is a great camera. I too, thought I needed to move up and bought the 50D. Found out $1200 later that I was wrong; I did not need to get a different camera. I loved my 50D (it was stolen) but what I really needed was to get out of auto mode and into manual mode. Think about keeping the camera you have and invest in good glass instead. Unless you have mastered that camera in manual mode there is no reason to buy a different camera. If you want to shoot video, get a video camera. I will never purchase a combo camera again. I'd rather carry two cameras.

Why don't you consider a used 60D or 7D from a reputable used equipment seller such as George Ury?

http://www.georgeury.com/

Right now he has a 60D mint in the box for $795 or a 7D for $1095. And when George Ury says it is mint it is mint. If you call him he may take a little less.

Just a thought. Also if you must buy new there are rebates on both right now.

My back-up camera is a T3i and I have not used the video yet. I have a Canon FS30 if I want to shoot video.
