Took this while we where camping. My daughter and husband love it and so do I actually, put it in a 5x7 frame with a blue matt it looks really nice, however I am very much an amateur but would like opinions. My family says im getting really good with my camera! LOL little do they know I haven't a clue, thank god for auto mode, and all the scene modes, etc. I don't even remember what I had the camera set on for this one! Probably auto and I had a filter on at one point but don't remember if I left it on for this. Thanks and please no mean opinions , ive already admitted I am not a good photographer

Wonderful shot, I'll beat it pretty much shows what you were feeling when taking the picture, that is making the best of a situation!!

You can check the exif data for the settings used. Its a rather nice photo but i think bringing up the exposure just a bit on the foreground boulder would improve it. This is easily accomplished in lightroom, but im thinking since you describe yourself as not having a clue that you probably dont use too much PP. Overall, not too bad.

A 5x7 with blue mat? That tell me it's originally a 4x6.
What a shame! That photo is begging to be at least a 16x20!

A nice job considering the brightness range in the scene. Very sharp - could be blown up considerably with minimum loss of detail. I would like to see you get away from putting the subject dead center. A little off-center is often more interesting

Custodian, you have captured the atmosphere beautifully here, the early morning light suggesting all the promise of a new day.The low sun angle plays an important part in making this photo very successful. To me, this shot evokes a response, being one who enjoys the outdoors, it is immediately obvious what prompted you to capture the scene. An absolute beginner may have rushed down to the water's edge to capture the scene, but the view point you've chosen leaves that little bit of intrigue. One great thing about photography is that an amateur CAN make a great photo, it just that a very experienced photographer may have a much higher success rate.I think you have been very successful here because you visualized the photo before taking it .Good luck & keep up the good work-D.
Nice shot, but there's SO much more detail in there begging to come out. Too bad you didn't bracket it a few stops above and below.

This just proves photography is in the eye of the beholder. I really like the shot, but it made me think evening sun instead of morning. I felt like I was sitting by the lake at the end of a great day having a cold one with friends and family. I am glad you and your family love it because that is the most important thing. I think the feeling a photo invokes is more important than the technical details.
I agree you should try some PP on it to bring out some foreground detail, and I think your eye shows that you are ready to learn your camera and get out of Auto. It will take you to the next level.
It s a nice picture. What if you cropped it a little. On the left side of the reflections leave only 2 or 3 of the trees. Also crop out some of the bottom or some of the top so that the brush in the center of the photo does not cut the picture in half

Agreed, and I did wonder if, in fact, I we were looking at an evening shot !?---D.
Yes , it was evening , mornings I didn't get up early enough to catch a good shot, our daughter and son in law and their beautiful baby girl were camping with us and I was listening for her to wake up so I could grab her and cuddle her before mommy got her! I heard her first... but mommy made me hand her over so she could cuddle her first! But I did get to feed her breakfast and take her out to see the mommy ducks and babies walking past the cottage!! Lucky for us we didn't have the mommy bear and baby cub visit our site like the unfortunate campers up he lane from us, they left their car windows down a bit and the bear damaged the car pretty bad and destroyed whatever they had outside their cabin, but we are told when we check in OUR BEARS ARE OUT! Lock your cars close your windows leave no food in your vehicle ! Thank you all for your comments I really appreciate them!!
I like the idea of the photo, and I like the photo. I agree that a little PP would make it even better. You might try boosting the shadows enough to capture some detail, but not so much as to distract from the eye movement to the subject of the photo. The reflection of the sun did blow out a bit on the water - perhaps taking the highlights down somewhat would lessen the effect of that. Normally I like the "rule of thirds" rather than putting the subject in the center - but this kind of works with the clear opening in the trees. I'd try cropping it a bit on the left which would have the effect of moving the subject over. If that doesn't look right, "Undo." Much of this is personal preference, it is just something to consider if you work with it more. ~And don't be afraid of "A" or "S" settings. You will be amazed at how simple it becomes. Push the envelope.
