Oh the crushing weight of a woman's hand.
How about her hand in his open palm?

Just so you know, I am not by any means a pro. I well tell you what I see for what it worth.

I didn't enjoy looking at this photo. The Black and white conversion of the hand is just to much of a distraction. I know you did it in an attempt to make the rings stand out being gold and matching the skin color. Perhaps I spend to much time in Photoshop. Photo wise it is right on the money. It's just the conversion, it was done properly, it just doesn't stand out like I or you thought it would. Gold, very hard to capture, as with any jewelry shot.

Thanks for your input Bill. To be honest I really couldn't decide myself whether to go with the BW conversion or not.
 :?:

I tend to favor the color, but then again like I mentioned, I'm not a pro at this. Perhaps a womens input might carry more weight. LOL

One thing that I notice, (I still get a lot of requests for selective color, because my clients aren't photographers, and don't know that selective color is out of vogue ;_) ) Is whenever I do selective color, even if I calibrated the color and used my colorcheckr passport, once the conversion is done, the colors never look right. I know they are exactly as they look in the color version, but to my eye, everything takes on a weird orange cast. I think it is our eyes playing tricks on us, because we "expect" to see things looking a certain way. Anyway, what I've started doing is to either slightly desaturate the color part, or better yet, I change the colors a bit in photoshop or lightroom to make everything a touch cooler.

I don't hate the spot color like many do, I guess it's because I get so many requests, and it helps me make money. I'm just letting you know what seems to help me with my images, for the colors to not look quite so "off" It is all a trick of the eye, but in the end, you want the rings to "look right" not necessary "be right". (if any of that makes sense)

As for the suggestion of the groom's hand palm up, I'm going to try that. Sounds like a great alternative, but the ring might not be as visible.

I know what you mean about the color not looking right. In terms of the groom's hand being palm up or down, this was what the couple wanted (palm down) to focus on the jewelry. Even though as Bill suggested that palm up would portray 'partnership"
