Happy Independence Day fellow hoggers! Just returned from a camping trip where we got some decent photos of some very hard to capture warblers. My s/o has a bird app on his iPad and started playing the songs of warblers he thought should be in the area. Before long we had company. Below are a few of the many shots we took. This bird is a Pine Warbler. Has anyone else used this method? I told him to stop playing it when it seemed to me that the bird was getting agitated trying to "beat up" our speaker - what he deemed was his competition. It amazed me how it could beeline in on that little speaker so matter where we placed it!

How did you get the app sound to play on that remote speaker? Bluetooth? Where did you get the speaker?

Yup, Bluetooth. Got it at the Verizon store a few years ago but have seen them in a variety of other places since then. Best Buy rings a bell. JBL is the brand but there are others. Has to be charged via my computer (USB) so that can be a hassle if it runs out when we're not home. Hmmmm.....just realized that maybe I can use the power storage gadget I sometimes use to charge my iphone.

I never heard of this, Donna. I have a bird book that has the songs of the bird on that page. They say in the front of the book never to use it around birds. Hmmmm...

over use of electronic bird calls may actually cause them to leave their territories and is not recommended by birding groups. It is also illegal to use electronic calls to lure birds or wildlife in all national park areas, some state parks and US FWS Refuges

Thanks! I did not know that. Luckily we were not at a state park or refuge. Appreciate everyone's input. Happy shooting!
