A surprising encounter..

between a cat and a snake. I was touring the garden and turned around and there at my feet was a yellow Spotted King snake. I took his picture (#1) and looked up and observed Kit-Kit following a scent across the grass and into the garden a few feet from the snake. I stood where I was with the snake about 12 inches from my feet. Kit-Kit continued to follow the scent until he got a little over a foot away, the snake turned his head in the cat's direction and I took the shot. A few seconds later the snake casually turned and slid through the leaves and headed for the woods. He was about 3 feet long and could easily have squeezed Kit-Kit to death if he had wanted and the cat had been dumb enough to follow through on his inspection. But Kit-Kit being a smart cat turned in the opposite direction walked away and found other things to inspect.

Good capture of their encounter, glad the snake didn't put the squeeze on Kit Kit.

I didn't know at the time that it could have! I wasn't afraid of it and I think Kit-Kit could smell that it wasn't something to eat and was too big to play with. He used to play with garter snakes and his favorite toy is a string! Go figure.

Nice shots Corolyn, our little crazy cat was walking across the back yard with a snake in her mouth, still alive, a very small one .

Well caught! Glad everyone just called it a day and went their separate ways. Back In the days when our cats still went outside they'd nail any snake they could find, big or small.

These days, they just sit around and brag about it.

Yes I know about crazy cats and Kit-Kit is no exception, he used to do the same as yours but I think he decided this one was too big to handle and backed off.

Hi Angela. Yes the snake was a beauty and I recognized it immediately as not dangerous although they do eat small mammals but I think it decided Kit-Kit was a little too big.
