Chris Squire died Saturday at the age of 67 from leukemia. Chris was the bass player and co-founding member of the band 'YES' who were at their peak during the 70's into the 80's. I saw them at least 4 times and always considered them as one of the best groups whose sound was better live, than on record.

Damned shame! I saw 'em live do Tales From Topographic Oceans in 1973 and bought nearly all their albums. They're one of the best bands of the last century.

I actually have Chris' solo album on a cassette somewhere... I should listen to it tonight. It was pretty good, although his work with Yes was better.

'Tales' is certainly representative of some of the great work by the band. They had a very unique sound for the time, which you either loved or hated. The 70's were a fantastic time for all Rock bands, so glad to have been able to hear/see it.
btw... I wholeheartedly agree with your feelings on "A Fish Out of Water", it's very listenable, but not on par with his work with the band.

I knew "Fish" was sick from several years ago. Sorry to hear this news. His solo was "Fish out of Water," I believe, and it was pretty good. Of course Roundabout was always a favorite song. I've seen Yes countless times since the late seventies. Probably my favorite rock band. art rock, but still rock.

Who knows the story of how he got the nickname Fish?

I'm going with, it's because he played the B-ass guitar... :)

I have loved Yes for so long, but had never saw them in concert until last year. LOVED the concert. They are coming back to Denver this year. Will miss Chris. Cheers.

They were great! Saw them at the World Series of Rock outside Chicago in, say, 1975?

Yes, Skynrrd, Frampton, Wright, a few others.......all day!

In the early band days when the band rented a house together he was famous for VERY long, leisurely baths.

Do I win? Lol!

Saw them live more than a dozen times, including the introduction tour for "Tales", that was one wild set.
RIP Chris Squire.

That is definitely part of the story. But there is one more nugget...

I was (still am) a huge YES fan. I have seen them at least 5 or 6 times back in the "70's and "80's. A good friend is a bass player and she put Chris at the top of her list of best bass players. He will be missed by many.
