My new baby....Epson RD-1s rangefinder.
I decided to give this gem a shot.
It's the first digital rangefinder; the Epson RD-1s.
Check it out...you have to cock it like a film camera after every shot...love it.
It's simplicity at it's finest; shutter speed, aperture and ISO.
No frills like AF...no video.
Pure picture taking fun in a rangefinder.
The lens is a Voigtlander 35mm 1.4 Nokton.
Very cool... I love the lens hood!
Nice looking camera, It looks like the size of a large point & shoot. Do they sell those in black & silver? What do the pictures look like?
I remember when it came out.

HERE.
I thought the design was brilliant.
Let us know how it goes.
The big question...how much $$$?
I can't help but notice the rather short distance between the RF and VF windows. Is it difficult to focus the RD-1s accurately?

Not bad. They've really held their value over the years. I paid 1,100 for the camera and lens together.

I don't know yet but I haven't seen anyone talk about that...so my guess is no.

Nope...they are black only.

This would be perfect if it was full frame. So I could use my leica 35mm F1.4 asph as a 35mm lens.

That's certainly a drawback for me, but I currently use an APS-C camera so I'm used to it.

Generally speaking, in the rangefinder world, the length of the base leg of the rangefinder triangle does affect focusing. However, the focus is usually affected more as the focal length of the lens rises. Usually a short base leg is harder to focus on lens lengths above 90mm, and rangefinder camera's were most often used in wide angle photography with shorter focal length lenses.
The longest base leg on a rangefinder I have owned was the copy of Contax, made as the Kiev (FSU) when Russia took the Contax factory from Germany as "spoils of war" and relocated it in the Ukraine at the arms arsenal in Kiev.
The base leg of the Contax was full width of the camera body. Even when Nikon "copied" the Contax/Kiev for the Nikon "S" rangefinder, they cut the base leg in half.
Here is a pic of my Kiev "KNEB" showing the wide base leg.
Regarding the RD1s. Very nice. I was surprised lately to learn that Epson made the camera until very recently, or in fact, may still be doing so. You should have no problem with focus. It has never seemed an issue and it is consistent with the build of Cosina and Voightlander rangefinder bodies. I think (not sure) that Cosina built the body for Epson. Excellent rangefinder manufacturer.
My Kiev (Contax copy. date indicates made with original Contax parts still in inventory when the factory was "liberated" from Germany. Note the full body width RF base leg windows). Also Pic from same... Tri-X film:

Just saw your sub line... cracked me up.
Would a 75 pound Cougar be "pointless". I do understand your comment about cats in general.
Give me a well trained Border Collie and a herd of sheep to "work"!!!!
