Tony, these are truly amazing for an inexpensive camera. Surely, you used tripod and time-release. These are a testament to the high quality of digital photography and the skill of a professional. Congrats all around!

Tony, your photos serve as more than an inspiration to SX-50 owners... it also serves as a challenge! Great work.
These are excellent Tony.

Hi ssymeono,
I very much appreciate your generous words. For the record, every bird & wildlife photo I post here or on my website are all hand-held. Additionally, these particular images have not been cropped! The cormorant shots were particularly challenging in that the bird and I were on opposite floating docks that were bobbing out of sync. I had to time it such that I could get the "corner loaded" image placement I favor in my portrait shots. I always shoot using "Continuous Mode" so one of them is bound to turn out well.
On my website I offer numerous tips on how to stabilize the camera during hand-held sessions.
Thanks again for your kind words!
Tony
P.S. This is still my absolute favorite image from that same day!

Spent some time looking at your gallery. Excellent work. Can't say enough about it. Beautiful.

Not sure why, but Sony 50X looks spectacular! Is it the macro function or the photographer?

Sony cameras will detect when macro is needed and adjust the lens automatically. No need to set it...somehow it knows when your shooting up close. But, it does take a steady hand.

It all comes down to shooting with light-weight cameras: it would be much easier to hold steady a Sony than a D800.

You wowed me AGAIN. That black-crowned night heron is my favorite of this set. But only because I've only just discovered an area where I can reasonably expect to find them on a regular basis. Those red eyes freaked me out at first - thought I'd done something VERY wrong.
Thanks again for sharing your beautiful images and for challenging me to do better - MUCH better - when it comes to the birds I shoot.
