I think it is probably pollen Tom, there is so much pollen about here at the moment. I think it is a Wood White Butterfly, Leptidea sinapis but I can't be sure.

Thanks Douglass, I think the caterpillar is a small Tortoiseshell butterfly called Aglais urticae.
The Scale insect might be Aphenochiton subtilis or very similar.

Thanks again David. This site is associated with some environmental work that is being done due to the influence of David Bellamy and, in fact, it has an award from some David Bellamy institute for their efforts. There are certainly more insects here than a few roads away even. The name of the camping site is Quex Park, Birchington, Kent.

Brenda, another nice series. I like the butterfly shot best, but then I am partial to butterflies. Cats are interesting as well.
