We will be on a bus with a group, but will have optional time on our own.

Perhaps you could copy and paste your itinerary, or a synopsis of it and then we could make more suitable suggestions. All the above seem worthwhile with the possible exception of Loch Ness. It'll take an age from Edinburgh however you choose to go. But if you've the time there's a lot history to see on the way (via. Fort William & Glencoe) and if you get to Fort William you might get an excursion on the Harry Potter express.

If it's countryside you are after from the lakes cut across through the Yorkshire Dales and Moors parks and then onto the Pennines before going to North Wales.

If possible take in Canterbury and see the oldest cathedral in the world. It could take a week to see all the sights of London but take an open top bus tour and have a really lovely time.

I was going to say that every hill you crest and every corner you go around will present a photo op, but I see that you will be an a bus. There still will be plenty to see and do. Every one of the stops you mentioned will be enough to fill a photo card (just kidding).

Have a wonderful trip!

My wife & I are planning a tour in the U.K. in September. Starting in Edenburgh and Ending in London, our tour travels through England's Lakes District, Wales (Deganwy, Caernarfon), then into the Cotswolds, Stonehenge, Bath, then London.

Does anyone have any "must see:) favorite spots worthy of a side-trip along our itinerary? Would love to hear from you.

Don't forget to visit many pubs and try the excellent micro-brews that the UK teems with.

I would suggest keeping in touch as and when you get here rather than be inundated with too much info. If we know where you are and where you will be every couple of days we can be of much greater service to you. Internet cafes are everywhere and we will be happy to help out.

Get to York if you can and go to the Minster...stay a while...we only had an overnight there in June 2014 and wish we'd had longer....Royal Mile in Edinburgh, St. Giles Cathedral there, Canongate Kirk cemetery (if you like cemeteries..), Greyfriars Kirk, cemetery and Greyfriars Bobby statues...Holyroodhouse Palace and Abbey and Ediburgh Castle...I'm not prejudiced a bit, am I? lol

Searcher; I've been on this site for a few years now and whenever I see your comments they are a must read. You are always so helpful and full of information. Not going to the UK anytime soon but it's on my bucket list. I truly appreciate all your helpful comments. Just wanted to thank you for all you do for the UHH members.

Cambridge University. Unlike Oxford, which is basically in a city, Cambridge is spread out along the beautiful Cam river. It is divided into "Colleges" in which the students live and the "Backs" of the Colleges, which border the Cam, are extraordinarily beautiful and photogenic as are the Colleges themselves. Make sure you "punt on the Cam," that is, take a small flat boat (punt) and propel it yourself along the river by pushing the bottom of the river with a pole. There is a greater than 50% chance you will fall overboard the first time; there is no shame in this. Also ... it is a bit riskier in Cambridge where they punt correctly (standing on a platform on the rear of the boat) than in Oxford where they punt incorrectly and wimpily standing inside the boat at the front. (Can you tell I went to Cambridge?). Try Googling punting on the Cam and (if you must) punting at Oxford to see how it is properly and improperly done. (By the way ... I have seen young ladies in full evening dress fall into the Cam while punting.)

If you go this photo site https://500px.com/popular and then use the search option and put in the places you will be going to. You will then get the photos of this area.

As an example type in "Newcastle upon Tyne" and you will see a lot of good pics. Type in "Northumberland" and you will see another group of good pics.

Based on that you can see how it fits into your travel plans.
