The U. S. has more military equipment stationed in South Korea than other countries have all together.

I was with the 5th Cav Regt 1st Cav Div 1950. While the 24th was getting creamed in Korea we were taken amphibious training back in Japan. Guess what! When we got to Korea we walked off.

I was in Korea 63-64 with Nuke tipped ground to ground missiles -- though not official doctrine, the 30,000+ US troops were just a write off, to suffer the fate of Task Force Smith at the beginning of the Korean War. Even with our greater fire power, their overwhelming man power will win the day, until we send in the reinforcements.
