Amateur looking for inexpensive printer.
Read my original post earlier in this thread and you will know why I recommend leaving it on.
Actually what killed my last HP printer was a power failure. I was running it off a generator and the generator quit on me. When it quit, the printer never came back on. I liked that HP to!

Some printers, Canon's Pixma Pro-100, for example, have an automatic shut-off and cannot be left on.
Mine must be broken. It has been on for almost two years.

Not sure what I want to use to print my photos. I'd like to build an album. So far, everything has been sent to COSTCO.
Probably will use mostly 8X10. Larger? Need advice. Retired. Limited budget.
Paper? Can you help with that too? Source?
Should I stick with COSTCO, Walgreens, etc.?
Thanks. It's help like this that is part of the reason to be a member. (Until someone tells me what a low life and idiot I am and that I should sell my cameras and throw myself in front of a bus. I'd like to read your answers before following such advice and killing myself.) ......... smile

I, too send most of my pictures out for printing because it is more cost effective - Walmart for me...BUT, when I print pictures at home, I ALWAYS like them better.
I have always used & love Canon Pixma printers for picture printing & just bought an MG6600 for $60 on eBay. It uses 5 separate inks. Not quite as good as my former MG7120, but that one cost $100 more & uses 6 inks. The nice thing about the 7120 is that it has 2 paper trays, one for 4 x 6 photo paper & the other for larger paper...5x7 up to 8 1/2 x11. I keep forgetting that when I want to print a picture on the 6600 that I have to change the paper first. Currently I also have a Canon Pro 100 but I haven't printed any pictures with it yet (it is brand new). It has 8 inks & sells for about $250. With a Canon printer, I have always used Canon paper. The glossy II is nice. Use off brand (cheaper) Iink cartridges at your own risk!
EDIT: The Canon will make excellent prints for your album! I also make albums (scrapbooking) but I edit the pics in LR before printing.
Sams Club does a much better job than Walmart--and is quick and cheap

I have an Epson xp860. Makes gorgeous 8.5x11 or 8x10 of course. Six cartridges. I love it for printing photos. However my old Canon did nice photos also at less than half the cost.
Ever so often I think of getting a larger printer, but there are so many good professional printers that it just wouldn't be worthwhile. And a printer for 16x20 or larger is just beyond my budget.

I tried to use Sam's Club, but their online site never worked for me, & their location is not convenient. I thought about trying Costco.
Costco (around here....central New Mexico) is VERY good.
